Before Mr. Stanton's book I knew nothing about this story. That, in and of itself, is a tragedy.
What happened to these men is a terrible debacle that need not ever be repeated. I think it is time for the Navy itself to admit it's wrong doing and remove any charges from the captain's record.
I have the highest respect for the crew of the Indianapolis.
I'm very glad this incident was brought to my attention and hope it will be to many others.
