The USS DOROTHEA L. DIX AP67 won numerous battle metals for her participation in the Invasion of Normandy. Noted author Ernest Hemingway was aboard the DIX as a war correspondent for Collier's Magazine. My Father, Richard A. Daecher, nicknamed "High Pockets" by his shipmates as a result of his 6'7" stature, served with pride on board the DIX, which fondly came to be the :Dirty Dottie" by the boys, turned men, who called her home. I can be contacted at DaecherR@police.co.lancaster.pa.us for any reason regarding the USS DOROTHEA L. DIX AP67 WWII Transport Ship.
