I just read "In Harm's Way", which has prompted me for the 3rd or 4th time in my life to begin a quest for more information on my Uncle, Gordon Macdonald, who died in the Battle of Savo Island on the USS Vincennes. Does anyone know how I might be able to find more information? I am currently reading "The Battle of Savo Island", which has been helpful and very interesting. I would appreciate any information anyone could share with me.
My father was only 14 years old when his brother died. He is 76 now and I know that he would like to know more about the circumstances of his brother's death. Are there any survivor groups that might put me in touch with men he could have known on the ship? I would especially love to be in touch with anyone who has personal, first-hand accounts of the experience of that battle.
I don't even know where to begin!
