Hi Kristy. I am Jim Belcher, Jr., son of Indy survivor Jim Belcher, also a radioman (as was your grandfather). My father was often asked if he knew other radioman & crewman, but to my recollection he never mentioned your grandfather by name. Many of the final crew, like my father, came onboard at Mare Island just weeks before leaving on this final mission. My father was assigned to Radio 1. I think it was Radio 2 that got a message out, and your grandfather might have been partially responsible for that if he worked there and survived the initial explosions. Most of the men went immediately to their battle stations. Good luck finding out more about him. God bless him and your family.
