I have just completed listening to the book on audiotape since I don't get much chance to read casually. I was very moved by the ordeal that the survivors went through and was especially horrified by the treatment of Captain McVay. It's unfortunate that people in positions of authority refuse to take responsibility for their mistakes and thereby destroy the life and career of a man of integrity who in fact took responsibility for much more than his fair share. It's also unfortunate that the navy finds it more important to protect themselves than to protect the men they are responsible for.
